Khumbu Filming Academy Update

The first batch of 28 Sherpas completed a video filming basic training course conducted by the AVES Studio in Anamnagar, Kathmandu. The course began on 9 January 2009. CEO of AVES Studio, Shiva Puri personally conducted the training program on the technicalities of video filming. Shiva Puri is well known in the Nepali feature films and documentaries circle. He is the Chief Editor for notable documentaries such as ‘Greater Nepal’ and ‘Outside the Newsroom.’ These 28 Sherpas will receive further intensive field training in the Khumbu prior to the Imja Tsho Action Event 2009. They are expected to cover the Beat the GLOF Action Run. They will be positioned at various points along the run route to video film the participants of the Action Run 18 June 2009. Their footage will be compiled in Khumjung and given to members of the media covering the event.

The training of Sherpas on video filming began on January 9th 2009. The training was conducted by Shivapuri (Chief Editor) at the Aves Studio office in Anam Nagar, Kathmandu. In total, 3 Sherpas have already completed their basic training in the use of video cameras. These three Sherpas are the most enthusiastic and they are close climbing companions of Dawa Steven Sherpa. In fact, Pemba Tenzing and Naga Dorje were the ones who had initially conceptualized the Filming Academy.

These 3 Sherpas are committed to being the motivators and active promoter of the Filming Academy. They have 10 Everest summits between them and are very highly respected by the youth of Khumjung and the surrounding villages.
